Cloth Diapers Decoded: Inserts, Doublers, and Liners

Cloth diaper lingo can be confusing! But anytime you see the "Cloth Diapers Decoded" logo above, you'll know we are here with a post to help clarify things for you! Have a cloth diaper word, phrase, or expression you'd like us to clarify in a future post? Leave us a comment below and we will do our best to make it happen!

Today is all about what you're putting inside your diaper: do you know the differences between inserts, doublers, and liners?

Inserts
Example:

What it means: An absorbent piece of material (usually several layers of fabric sewn together) to put inside a diaper such as a pocket or hybrid diaper that has waterproof and/or moisture wicking layers but usually no built in absorbency.
Pros: absorbent
Cons: have to stuff diapers before use

Doublers

Example:

What it means: An absorbent piece of material to add to existing absorbency in a diaper.
Pros: adds absorbency
Cons: extra expense and can add bulk

Liners
Example:

What it means: A piece of fabric set in a cloth diaper to serve as a top layer. Often disposable.
Pros: can protect diapers from being ruined by conventional diaper creams, can make cleaning up poopy diapers easier, can reduce diaper rash
Cons: Added expense and waste if disposable or laundering if reusable

Product Spotlight: MosquitNo Insect Repellant Bracelets

Are Mosquitos putting a damper on your summer fun? They're sure trying to here, so I got a kids' size MosquitNo bracelet from Cloth Diaper Outlet for my preschooler and an adult one for myself to try out. Instead of DEET, they use citronella oil to, as I told my son, "make us stinky to the Mosquitos" (but luckily not to other people!)

I tried out pink in the adult size:

And my son got glow-in-the-dark in the kids' size:

Here's how they compare on the two of us:

And here's both on me:

I have extremely small wrists, and the adult was big but not falling off, and the kidsbarely fit without stretching, so I'd definitely recommend the "adultfor pretty muchall adults.

If you or your child have sensitive skin, you could wear yours over a shirt sleeve or hook it to a backpack or belt loop.

The reusable bags are especially handy and I found it easy to put them back in and seal them. It's hard to tell for sure how effective any bug repellent is, but my son and I have worn them several times for hiking and a music festival and neither of us got any bites any of the times we wore them and my husband and other people around us did get some bites some of the time, so I think they are working!!

I definitely recommend these cute and effective bracelets for anyone who loves being outdoors but is tired of mosquito eating them alive when you do go out. At time of posting this review, both sizes are $3.99 (but there's a discount if you buy 3 or more!!) and the adult size MosquitNo Bandzz are available in black, came, glow-in-the-dark, light blue, navy, orange, pink, red, tie-dye, and yellow and kids' size are available in glow-in-the-dark, green, light blue, orange, pink, red, tie-dye, and yellow (check the Cloth Diaper Outlet website for up to date prices and availability as both are subject to change!).
