BumGenius One Size Pocket Diaper: Past and Present

When our store opened in October 2005, BumGenius didn't exist.  However, it followed shortly after, releasing just before Christmas in 2005.  The debut diaper, the BumGenius One-Size Cloth Diaper, came only in white, with hook/loop closure, and was made from nylon instead of PUL.

In the spring of 2006, the first colors followed, along with the first retailers.  Cloth Diaper Outlet is proud to have been one of the first retailers, stocking white along with the brand new twilight, grasshopper, and butternut.

Over the past 8 years, the original BumGenius pocket diaper has changed some, morphing from what was later known as the 1.0 to today's beloved BumGenius 4.0 One-Size Cloth Diaper.

Forgive my photos...finding pristine versions of diapers that are 8 years old is hard!  Pretty much impossible, actually.  The 1.0 shown here was our family's very first BumGenius, purchased immediately after their release in 2005.  So ignore the aged appearance and enjoy the evolution of the BumGenius One-Size Cloth Diaper.

White (Original BumGenius 1.0); Butternut (BumGenius 2.0); Grasshopper (BumGenius 3.0); Twilight (BumGenius 4.0)
All four versions featured the now-patented stretchy tabs that were so revolutionary in 2005.  From version 2.0 to 3.0, the size of the stretchy tabs changed so that they were smaller, but just as stretchy and adjustable.

The 4.0 (top) was the first of the BumGenius pocket diapers to offer a snap closure.  Prior to that, all versions were offered only with a hook/loop closure.  The 4.0 version also underwent a slight pattern change, becoming a tad larger with a larger pocket opening and easily replaceable elastic.

Version 1.0 (white) had the hook/loop overlap on only one side.  This was one of the favorite improvements for version 2.0 (butternut): that the hook/loop could be overlapped on either side.  Other major changes included switching from nylon to PUL and adding the first girly color: blossom!

Version 3.0 (grasshopper) was the first to offer the "insert stopper", which prevented the insert from poking up above the PUL when the diaper was snapped down into smaller sizes.  The problem caused leaking at the belly, but the insert stopper solved it beautifully.  Some later versions of the 2.0 also had the insert stopper.

In subsequent versions, the hook/loop tabs were larger.  The laundry tabs also got significantly larger, helping mamas prevent diaper chains in the wash.

If YOU have a pristine 1.0, 2.0, or 3.0 BumGenius pocket diaper, let me know!  It has to be almost perfect with no signs of wear.  I'm willing to trade a nice store credit!
