We planned on using disposables, oops!

When I first found out I was pregnant, I began to stock up on disposables. I know…this is a cloth diaper blog…but keep reading. I began to stock up on disposables because I figured if I could get great deals on them, I wouldn’t have to buy any when the baby came around. So stock up I did. After awhile, it became very time consuming and stressful trying to find the best sales and coupons for disposable diapers. Then, one day a friend of mine who was also pregnant introduced me to a popular pocket cloth diaper. Enter… my first encounter with modern day cloth diapers. She showed me how they worked and I became very intrigued!

Of course I had many questions like “what about the poop” and “do I need to buy a separate washing machine” or “how much do they cost.” I also had many doubts. I remember spending hours looking through the directions, watching video tutorials, and playing around with the diapers wondering if they would actually work as good as disposables. But the one thing I did know was that if the cloth diapers did work, they would save us a lot of time, money, and midnight runs for diapers. Not to mention they are much healthier for the baby and super cute too.

I finally gave in and bought my first stash of cloth diapers. My husband thought I was nuts and he even had people betting against “how long I would last using these cloth diapers.” Now me, being the stubborn girl that I am, I was determined to at least outlast the longest bet which was 2 months.

Here I am, 7 months later, and still cloth diapering…and happily I might add! In my experience, cloth diapers work much better than disposables any day! In addition, my husband has also become an advocate for cloth diapers, supporting me every step of the way.

I am very thankful to my friend who introduced me to cloth diapers. I will continue to pay it forward to my pregnant friends and give them the education so they can choose what will work best for their families.

Bio: Julie is a semi-stay-at-home mom to her handsome son J.T. who is 7 months old and wife to hubby Jered who is a teacher and pastor. J.T. provided her motivation to start Cloth Diapering! Not wanting to expose his little bum to all those chemicals in disposables and not returning to work full time, she was looking for a safe and inexpensive alternative. Cloth Diapering were her answer! Julie considers herself an advocate for cloth diapers and with her blog, My Cloth Diaper Stash, she hopes to share her passion and help others reap the benefits too.
