Baby Meatballs Recipe, Not a Jersey Shore reference!

I have the best baby food recipe for you. Are you ready? It’s an excellent way to get some meat into that baby’s belly and sneak in some veggies for those picky eaters too! I stumbled upon this recipe when my son was about nine months old. He wanted to eat finger foods and the pureed chicken I was making him was just not cutting it any more.  I turned to Wholesome Baby Food for some meal ideas and that’s where I found this
gemstone. And I have a secret…I like love them too!

J&J’s Baby Meatballs from Wholesome Baby Food

First you have the ingredients. I make these in bulk, cook and then freeze them for a quick mealtime option.
Then combine the ingredients in a bowl as pictured. Here I used 1 lb ground turkey, 2 cups of baby cereal (I was really trying to figure out how to use it up!), ½ cup wheat germ and a container of mixed pureed veggies. For the seasoning I added two dashes of garlic powder. When you’re mixing the ingredients together you’ll want to use your hands to really work everything in. It takes me about five minutes of mashing for everything to be mixed well.
Once you’ve combined the ingredients together make baby sized meatballs. This picture makes the meatballs look bigger than they actually are. Before placing them in the preheated 400* oven cover the sheet with tinfoil. Bake until cooked through but not burned. These are for your baby so they should not be hard or crunchy.

J&J’s Baby Meatballs Ingredients:
  • Ground Turkey, Beef or Chicken
  • Plain baby cereal (boxed type) - you may use traditional bread crumbs or oat or wheat
  • bran if you prefer
  • Pureed veggies or fruits
  • Spices as desired
  • Wheat Germ

1. Place 1 part lean ground beef/turkey or chicken into a mixing bowl
2. Add 2 parts baby cereal and 1/2 part wheat germ. Use Spices that you find appropriate
(you may use bread crumbs if you choose)
For example, 1 cup ground meat, 1/2 cup baby cereal, 1/4 cup wheat germ
3. Add pureed veggies and/or fruit to moisten the mixture - as much as needed to moisten and bind the mixture
4. Mix together as you would when making “adult" meatballs.
5. Bake in an oven at 400 degrees until brown and cooked thoroughly – Cover with tinfoil, be sure not to burn the meatballs as they will become tough on the outside and baby may not be able to eat them.

(*Ground turkey, rice cereal, wheat germ, pureed sweet potato, dash of cinnamon for example)
