Trophy Tuesday - Funk Rock Ammonia Bouncer - CLOSED

If you've cloth diapered a toddler, you've probably dealt with ammonia at some point.  Rockin' Green has come up with a laundry additive just for you!  Funk Rock Ammonia Bouncer was created to take care of the ickies.  Start with a soak, then add a little to every load of diapers to keep your diapers smelling fresh.

I'm also hearing that this works GREAT on pet odors.

I tried this recently on our son's diapers.  He's only 8 months old, so ammonia isn't typically a problem, but we'd tried some experimental detergent that left a buildup.  After stripping the detergent residue out of the diapers, we still had some morning ammonia, so cue the Funk Rock.  After following the instructions on the package for soaking the diapers, the ammonia was much improved.  I soaked the diapers one more time and no more morning ammonia!  It was enough to make a believer out of me.

I have a Kenmore HE2+ front loader. Here's my routine:

Pre-rinse to get the yuckies out (37 mins):
I use the GENTLE cycle since it adds the most water. I just started using the warm/cold setting with 1 tsp. Rockin Green instead of using the cold/cold setting. I've been reading that a warm pre-rinse is actually more helpful with getting stains out.

Wash (54 mins):
I recently switched from using the Whitest-Whites cycle which has a pre-wash and extra rinse to a NORMAL cycle. I use the remaining 2 tsp. of Rockin Green in this wash cycle. This cycle is on the Hot/Cold setting. (My machine doesn't do hot or warm rinses if a hot wash is selected.)
About 3 minutes into this cycle (after the machine has stopped adding its water), I pause my machine and add 3 gallons of HOT water through the detergent dispenser. My washer has a window on the front so I can see that this amount of added water gets the wash water up and over the gasket to my washer's door. This gives LOTS of water for the diapers to slosh around in and get clean.

Second/Final Rinse (28 mins):
I use the express cycle and do a hot/cold wash without detergent. I've been hearing people like the extra hot/cold or warm/cold rinse to really get the detergent out of their diapers.

If your washer can do a HOT WASH with TWO HOT RINSES in one cycle, you can skip this step.

I'm still playing with this a bit.

We have incredibly hard water, even after it goes through the water softener. I do a warm water rinse, wash on hot (with Rockin' Green!) with two rinses. Then I rinse on cold again. About once a month I've been using a few sprays of Bio-Kleen with the first warm water rinse. When I do, I up the post wash rinses from three to five. I dry on hot and line-dry my covers, but when the weather in nice and the kids cooperate, I hang my diapers to dry in the sun.

My wash routine is pretty basic. I wash every other day, and start with a cold wash, and a hot wash with 1/4 of a scoop of Planet detergent and an extra cold rinse. If any of the diapers or inserts have any stains I'll sun them, otherwise the inserts go straight into the dryer and the covers and AIO hang to dry. If the diapers have been stinky, I'll do a pre-wash with Bac-Out.

My wash routine:
Cold prewash.
Hot wash with detergent (Rockin' Green or Country Save).
Two cold rinses. (I don't have a choice of rinse settings on my washer - and I wouldn;t have hot water left anyway).
Sometimes I toss some baking powder into the wash for stinkies.

I wash my diapers by first doing a rinse in warm water then washing with a tiny bit of ABC free laundry soap, Arm and Hammer washing soda and hot water. First rinse has a bit of vinegar and second rinse is just water. I think that something has to change though. In the morning I have very stinky diapers (just wet)also my diaper pail stinks really bad.

I've been wanting to try this stuff since it came out!

Our wash routine is pretty simple. We've been CDing for three years now. All diapers go in a dry pail (just a flip-top garbage can, no liner). Thick poo gets scraped off first with a spatula that we keep in a plastic bag under the sink.

When the garbage pail is full, everything goes into the wash machine and goes through a cold pre-rinse. Then I wash on hot with Nellie's laundry soda, cold rinse, and finish with a second cold rinse. Then everything goes into the dryer. I used to hang my pockets and covers, but I've since gotten lazy and just dry them all in the dryer. Works great for us!
